Challenges
Merging the IT from 7 different businesses came with significant challenges:
- Diverse IT Landscapes with a mix of on-premise infrastructure, virtual desktop and partially adopted 365 solutions
- Co-ordination between multiple incumbent IT providers to align contracts, licensing, technology stack and phased onboarding
- Consolidation of data from mutiple environments, using different business processes, into one source of truth
- Providing a secure environment pre and post migration for all businesses
- Maintaining Operations whilst migrating data assets and upgrading fleets of legacy devices
- Timescales were tight with hard deadlines in place for migration
Solution
MFM-IT's Dedicated Onboarding Team
After being successful in the tender to provide design, implementation, migration and support services to Rock, MFM-IT’s Infrastructure Design Team and Onboarding Team co-ordinated their efforts to put a plan in place for the consolidation.
Liaising with the incumbent providers and individual businesses, MFM completed a comprehensive audit and readiness assessment for each business first.
This included evaluation of existing systems and licensing models to identify risks and provide mitigation strategies.
MFM-IT’s Infrastructure Design Team were then able to provide a migration path for all businesses to agree with Key Stakeholders within Rock Compliance

Project Management
The Project Management team worked closely with all involved to ensure key milestones were hit and ultimately all work was completed by required deadlines.
This included ensuring key stakeholders were informed every step of the way.
Design
With a raft of differing processes, MFM-IT’s Architects worked with Rock to ensure that the short and long-term solutions for each business met the operational needs whilst adopting new technologies such as Autopilot and Intune to provide efficiencies in the migration process.
Security
The new Microsoft 365 tenancy was benchmarked against MFM-IT’s robust benchmark to ensure security from day one. Each existing organisation was remediated in the short term to comply with these requirements ahead of any migration work.
“
We knew this was a mammoth task, the speed of acquisition was immense, so going into this we needed an MSP with the right level of Customer Service and Technical Proficiency to get the job done. The tender process was rigorous but we know we made the right choice in appointing MFM.
Their understanding of what was required both technically and operationally meant we were able to provide an environment that allowed efficient onboarding for the new businesses and the ongoing support and advice since then has had immeasurable value. The real value add was that Rock required Cyber Essentials Plus for a number of national tenders. MFM’s implementation of the new environment meant we were able to achieve this swiftly and with very little headache

Results
What has been the outcome?
All organisations were onboarded in the required timelines and the platform that MFM designed has allowed Rock to grow their Cloud footprint and scale the business with very little overhead.
MFM also put together a support package which provided the right level of cover for Office based Staff and Service Engineers and optimised costs across software, hardware and licensing.
The unified tenancy has meant collaboration with Rock has progressed significantly, whilst visibility and centralised management has kept administrative burden to a minimum.
